Convert Receipt Screenshots to Expense Spreadsheet
Use Cowork to extract data from receipt screenshots and generate expense reports automatically
Overview
Tired of manually entering receipt information for every expense report? Let Cowork handle it automatically! It can recognize key information from receipt screenshots and generate organized expense spreadsheets.
Preparation
Place all receipt screenshots you need to process in a single folder, such as ~/Desktop/Receipts/.
Supported formats: PNG, JPG, JPEG, WebP
Steps
Step 1: Tell Claude Your Requirements
Please process the receipt screenshots in ~/Desktop/Receipts/ folder, extract the following information and generate an Excel spreadsheet:
- Date
- Merchant name
- Amount
- Expense type (dining/transportation/office supplies, etc.)
Step 2: Cowork Analyzes Receipts
Claude will:
- Scan all images in the specified folder
- Use OCR to recognize the content of each receipt
- Extract key information (date, amount, merchant, etc.)
- Display recognition results for your confirmation
Step 3: Confirm and Generate Spreadsheet
Review the recognition results. If there are errors, you can ask Claude to correct them:
The date for receipt #3 should be 2025-01-08, and the amount is 128.00
Once confirmed, Claude will generate an Excel or CSV file.
Step 4: Get Results
Cowork will generate a spreadsheet file at the specified location (or the original folder), containing:
- Summary information for all receipts
- Subtotals by category
- Total amount statistics
Accuracy Note: OCR recognition may have errors, especially for handwritten receipts or blurry images. Be sure to check the generated spreadsheet to ensure amounts and other key information are accurate.
Output Example
| Date | Merchant | Amount | Type |

| 2025-01-07 | Amazon | $299.00 | Office Supplies |
Tip: You can also ask Claude to group statistics by month or type, or directly generate an expense report template!
